Airbnb published 20 destinations where to live and work remotely, and it is not surprising that the Canary Islands are at the top of their list.
Airbnb received more than one million visits the week after they announced their flexible working policy. They launched the Live and Work Anywhere initiative earlier this year to target some of the world’s most remote, work-friendly destinations (including Bali and the Caribbean, among others). They support governments and Destination Marketing Organisations (DMOs) to help restore tourism and provide economic support to communities after two tough years of travel restrictions.
During the pandemic, when every office closed, and the employees found themselves working from their homes, Airbnb discovered the great advantages and opportunities that working remotely offered.
Nowadays, millions of people want to work remotely, as they have the opportunity to decide where to live and work. As a result, digital nomads are constantly moving, staying in different locations for weeks, months or even longer periods of time.
Together with their interest in getting to know different cultures, digital nomads find that working remotely is with no doubt an enriching experience. As a matter of fact, approximately one in five guests reported using Airbnb to work remotely while traveling in 2021, a trend that has been growing so far in 2022.
It is not surprising to see that the Canary Islands are one of the favourite destinations for digital nomads. Two of the main attractions that every digital nomad is looking for are: good weather and nature.
It turns out that the Canary Islands have the best climate in the world, where remote workers can enjoy beautiful landscapes with over 250 days of sunshine. No other place in Europe has as many days of sunshine as the Canary Islands.
Surrounded by a unique and diverse natural environment and an annual average temperature of 22 ºC/ 71 F., the Canaries offer spectacular landscapes where to unwind after a busy working day.
Are you working this summer and you don’t know where to go? The temperature is never too hot nor too cold in the archipelago. You can enjoy refreshing weather in summer and mild temperatures in winter. The perfect temperature is essential for digital nomads to feel comfortable while working.
Once you get to the archipelago, you’ll realise how clean the sky is, how sparkling and transparent the sea looks, and how exotic this land is. The best part is that you can enjoy it all as the Canary Islands offer a lot of different activities to do: hiking, sightseeing, cycling, star gazing, surfing, and much more. Many companies offer surfing and diving classes – click here to know more.
Besides, if you feel like enjoying a green and rural view or being in front of a beautiful white sandy beach, you can have it all since the Canary Islands are one of the few places in the world that offer such different scenarios just a few minutes or hours away. Every island has its peculiar weather, fauna, and flora and none of them will disappoint you.
Likewise, in the Canary Islands, as members of the EU, you can enjoy a multicultural atmosphere, all islands are very well connected by air and sea, and a visa is not required for EU citizens.
The islands are very well connected to mainland Spain and countries such as France, Italy, and the African continent, where travelers can fly for very low prices, thanks to the Canary Island’s tri-continental position. So, if you get a break from work, there are a lot of destinations you can easily travel to from the archipelago.
Live and work from the Canary Islands!
