As part of the prestigious international event, Data Management Summit PA Spain 2024, the Data Management Summit Tour was held last May in Gran Canaria. At this event, Proexca – Canary Island’s Government showcased its data management strategies. Daniel Hernández, Head of Proexca’s Technology Department, led the presentation, emphasising the critical importance of having a robust data management strategy for all companies, regardless of size or sector.

The Data Management Summit PA Spain 2024, focused on data management in Public Administrations, brought together national pioneers such as ISTAC, TITSA, Binter, and Sistema Ingeniería in Gran Canaria. This event served as an important forum for the Data Management community, allowing CIOs, CTOs, CDOs, BI Managers, Data Governance Officers, and Data Scientists to share experiences and use cases, and discuss the implementation of emerging technologies to address new technological challenges.

During his speech, Hernández stressed that data is vital for the operations and functioning of any company, whether public or private. In this context, Proexca and the Government of the Canary Islands have firmly committed to a robust data strategy in their work processes. Two years ago, Proexca created a Technology and Data Department, led by Hernández, an expert in business intelligence and digitalisation. Under his leadership, the entity has significantly optimised its internal processes, which caught the attention of the organisers of the Data Management Summit Tour, who invited Hernández as a speaker and expert at the event.

“Data on its own is worthless. Companies need an effective governance strategy and a data management model that facilitates the practical and efficient use of all information in supply chains, employee networks, customer ecosystems, partners, and other areas,” Hernández reiterated during his presentation.

The presence of qualified talent in technological sectors within the Public Administration reflects the commitment of the Government of the Canary Islands to develop a competitive pool of talent on a global level. This focus on the technology sector has made the Canary Islands a point of interest for startups and technology-based companies from around the world, seeking to grow in an environment that offers the necessary talent and an ideal business ecosystem.

The Data Management Summit Tour not only highlighted the relevance of data management in the public sector but also underscored the importance of having a clear strategy and modern tools to maintain competitiveness and efficiency in an increasingly digital world. Proexca, with its innovative approach and leadership in data management, positions itself as a sector reference, demonstrating that the combination of talent and technology is key to success in the digital age.
