The South Summit, the premier international event in the technology sector, took place in Madrid last week and featured a notable presence of startups from the Canary Islands

As part of the Sectorial Plan with the Canarias Excelencia Tecnológica Cluster, Proexca – Government of the Canary Islands, supported Canarian startups by providing a dedicated stand. This stand enabled the formation of new business alliances and opportunities. It served as a hub for investors and international companies keen to explore the technological ecosystem of the Islands.

Furthermore, the Government of the Canary Islands organised an elevator pitch on the Demo Stage, where 18 projects developed in the Canary Islands were presented to an audience of over 60 companies and investors from around the world.

The participation of tech-based companies, supported by the Government, highlights the strong institutional backing that startups in the Islands receive and the commitment to fostering innovation and technology-related activities.

During the event, Latin American companies participating in Proexca’s ‘Canarias Latam Tech’ programme attended the South Summit to deepen their connections with the Canarian ecosystem, strengthen ties with local companies, and explore the potential for establishing their businesses in the archipelago.

The Canary Islands are home to over 1,100 startups, making it the fifth-largest region in Spain in terms of the number of startups. The Islands also host a range of support organisations, including technology parks, innovation centres, institutes, and chambers of commerce. Increasingly, investors are choosing the Canary Islands, attracted by the robust ecosystem, local talent, excellent connectivity, and Europe’s most advantageous funding lines, all supported by the legal security of the European Union.
