18 International Companies Express Interest in Expanding Operations in the Canary Islands Following SEMICON WEST Event

Proexca, under the direction of the Government of the Canary Islands, attended the prestigious SEMICON WEST international trade fair in San Francisco. The delegation comprised public institutions and private enterprises, aiming to bolster the Canary Islands’ microelectronics ecosystem and attract direct foreign investment to the region.

The Government of the Canary Islands had a dual objective at the event: to support local microelectronics companies and entities by promoting their value propositions, and to draw significant technological investments to the Islands. The Canary Islands boast favourable economic, fiscal, natural, and logistical conditions that make them an attractive destination for high-impact technological investments. The archipelago is home to a notable semiconductor ecosystem, known as CanaryChip, which is well-positioned to present projects for the Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE) Chip.

Attracted by these numerous advantages, CEOs, Managing Directors, and Founders from 18 international companies have contacted Proexca to request meetings and explore the next steps towards establishing their businesses in the Canary Islands. These interested companies hail from countries including the United States, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Germany, and France.

SEMICON WEST is a leading global event in the semiconductor and microelectronics industry. This year’s edition saw over 15,000 visitors and 700 exhibitors representing companies and entities specialising in design, manufacturing, raw material suppliers, manufacturing equipment, R&D centres in microelectronics, and universities from around the world.

Gustavo González de Vega, Deputy Minister of Economy and Internationalisation and Vice President of Proexca, emphasised the importance of the Canary Islands’ presence at the event. He stated, “The participation of the conglomerate of Canary public institutions and private companies at this event has been crucial for positioning the Canary Islands, showcasing the potential of our region’s businesses, and highlighting the Islands as a focal point for companies looking to develop in the emerging sector of microelectronics and semiconductors.”
